Gems Education, one of the leading education groups in the UAE, will launch a net-zero school in Abu Dhabi's Masdar City in September. The Gems Founders School Masdar City is designed to generate as much energy as it consumes, contributing to the UAE's sustainability goals.
The campus will feature solar panels covering 9,500 square meters, expected to generate 3.1 million kilowatt-hours annually. The solar panels will provide power for the school and shade for the roof, car park, and walkways.
The school aims to reduce its carbon dioxide footprint by 1,154 tonnes annually through thermal insulation and building orientation. Initially, the school will accommodate 900 pupils from foundation stage one to year eight.
